Natural disasters

Unforeseeable and unavoidable events deemed to constitute force majeure, such as earthquakes, floods and fires.

Natural disasters are deemed to constitute force majeure, together with circumstances such as lawful strikes, widespread epidemics and the declaration of partial or general mobilisation. For force majeure to be accepted, the event must not be attributable to the contractor, must prevent performance of the obligation, must be beyond the contractor's power to overcome, must be notified in writing to the contracting authority within twenty days following the date on which the event occurred, and must be documented by the competent authorities. Where these conditions are met, a time extension may be granted or the contract may be terminated.
